1. What is a typical day for the children? 2. What happens if the weather is inclement? 3. What is the time commitment for each enrolled family? 4. What exactly is "bench time" and why is it necessary?
1. What is a typical day for the children? Children arrive at 9:30 am and play outside until 10:30 am. Then, they come into the classroom for a snack and circle time. After this, they are free to engage in the daily art activity, play with the manipulative toys or enjoy free play in our dress up area, with the blocks, in the library, with the kitchen, at the writing table, etc. At 11:30 am the children clean up the classroom in preparation for lunchtime. The last 15 minutes of the day is spent in a quiet activity with Cynthia or quietly reading in the library. 2. What happens if the weather is inclement? When we have a rainy day, we stay inside the entire day and modify our schedule. Our day ends at 11:45 am instead of 12:30 pm. This is ample time for the children to engage in all of the inside activities. 3. What is the time commitment for each enrolled family? Each family is responsible for: ~1 workday per week from 9:15 am until 12:30 pm ~1 member position (time commitment varies with each administrative job) ~2 clean up weekends per year (3-4 hours/shift) ~1 move out shift & 1 move in shift (3-4 hours/shift) ~1 sorting shift (3-4 hours) & 1 selling shift (5 hours) for our annual garage sale fundraiser ~6 or 7 general meetings each year (1 every 5-6 weeks, 2-3 hours/meeting) 4. What exactly is "bench time" and why is it necessary? "Bench time" is the first two week period during which a parent is present for their child each and every day. Our separation process is geared towards the child and his well-being. After the first week, you will begin leaving for short periods. As your child becomes more comfortable with your absence, the time is extended until he is able to spend the entire day on his own. "Bench time" serves a second purpose, as well--t is the best way for a new parent to grasp how Rancho Co-op functions. Cynthia will be working closely with you to help you become skilled at the best way to communicate with the children, you will learn everyone's name and how to carry out each work day position.
