Failure to do so could result in revocation of the school's license to operate. 2. Consent for medical treatment 3. Physician's report of a physical exam for the child 4. Health history form filled out by parents 5. Identification and emergency information 8. Receipt of information on personal rights "Bench Time" When a family joins Rancho Co-operative, we require that the parent or guardian follow a specific separation process. We refer to this first two-week period as "Bench Time." During this time, the child will become comfortable with our school and the parent will learn how our co-op functions and what the roles of the working parents are. We request that parents "on the bench" leave books, newspapers, daily planners, etc. at home. In addition, we discourage parents from talking on cell phones. This is a time to sit quietly and closely observe our daily routine. New students attend school with a parent for the first two weeks from 9:30 AM to 12:15 PM, Monday through Friday. This is a general schedule during the families first two to three weeks of school. Week One The first week parents sit on the bench available to their child at any time, but should encourage their child to ask another adult for assistance. Children in transition are encouraged to turn to a parent on duty--a "working parent"--for help and resources. Week Two By the second week, most parents have begun to separate, leaving for short periods during school. Separation time is gradually increased depending on the child's confidence. Many children bond with Cynthia during this time, but the response is very individual. If you return after the day's separation period while the children are in the quiet room, you are expected to help the working parents with their end-of-day duties, including cleaning the classroom. Week Three By Monday of the third week, you have probably completed separation and are now a new working parent. The Workday Chairperson will coordinate your work shift. You will be scheduled with at least one experienced parent on your workday. This parent can help answer questions as they arise. REMEMBER, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION. Some children may not have completed the separation process at this time. If this is the case with your child, you will continue to sit on the bench working closely with Cynthia to ultimately separate. You may be scheduled to work during this week as well. Bench Time Expectations
Membership Obligations Penalties are assessed if these obligations are not met and they are outlined in the Handbook. Scheduled Workday Each working parent is obligated to work on their schedule workday (usually once a week, depending on enrollment). Member Position Each working parent is responsible for accepting a member position. These positions vary widely, so you're sure to find one that is of interest to you and a good match for your schools. Member positions include things like coordinating fundraisers, maintaining the website or an are of the classroom, doing the laundry, or purchasing supplies. When you join, a full list of the open member positions will be presented for you to choose from. General Meetings Attendance by at least one parent, preferably the working parent, is mandatory at general meetings that occur approximately every 4 to 6 weeks, or as necessary. Meeting topics include school business, parenting, and other relevant issues. One general meeting may be missed, with proper advance notice, each school year. Board Meetings Board meetings are held about once a month and are attended by the Academic Director and the seven elected board members. Clean-Up Weekends Each family must sign up for 2 weekend workdays per school year, per enrolled child. This is usually a three to four hour obligation on a Saturday morning. Move-In/Move-Out Each family must sign up for one 4 hour shift during the two day move-in period and one 4 hour shift during the two day move-out period. Garage Sale Each family is responsible for gathering at least $100 (garage sale prices) worth of merchandise for sale at this event and for one sorting shift prior to the sale and one work shift during the sale per enrolled child.
